On our way to school one day, our son asked why girls have “power T-shirts” and boys don’t. He wanted a “power shirt,” too. And even after I explained the history of the girls’ empowerment movement, I still felt like he had a point: why SHOULDN’T he have a shirt? Why shouldn’t he feel empowered, too?
Children play dress-up and make-believe. They envision a world where they belong, where they are powerful, where they embody the forces that will catapult them into where they want to be. Dressed as a superhero, they truly believe they can fly. So let’s harness that spirit and let their spirits sore.
An empowered person knows their value and their worth. All children deserve that sense of self-worth. We aim to be Brave, be Bold, and be everything we can be; to be our best selves; to embrace all that we are. We strive to build a better community by giving children the chance to embody their power and grow to be their most excellent selves.
